Wedding Bells. Not Mine.

So we went to our best friend's wedding this weekend. It was one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever been to. And I've never been so involved in a wedding. I was one of her "posse", which, in case you are wondering is pretty much all the work of a bridesmaid (more than the maid of honor in this case) without the bridesmaid title. Which, was fine really. I loved helping plan, I helped her decorate, I organized the bachelorette thing, made the shower invitations, went with her to the hair dresser etc etc. And it was really fun. Now that it's over I'm not sure what to do with myself. I've been spending a lot of energy on it.

I don't have any pictures of me in the dress I wore, but it was the brown one with teal and cream flowers that C bought me. I made a tissue holder to match since I knew (correctly) I would be bawling my eyes out. We read a poem at the start of the ceremony and barely held it together. The rest of the wedding was not so calm. (BTW this poem really is beautiful)
Wedding Tissue Holder
I made this out of brocade, which is SO not my favorite fabric to sew with. And this kept gaping at the hole. But it served it's purpose as a formal tissue holder. I used Bella Dia's Flickr tutorial.

I also scrapped together the wedding present. I always do this. I've been thinking about what I wanted to put in it for months but waited until the week before the wedding to get going on it. It all worked out really well though. It is a picnic "basket" with everything they need for a romantic two person picnic. I decided on a backpack because they are outdoorsy biker people and I just thought it would be more practical.

Plus I found it at Ross for $16 and it fits everything PERFECTLY. A small front pocket for tiny things like bottle openers, a second pocket for all the dishware, the big pocket for the food and ice packs, and one side pocket for water and one for wine.
Christa/Joel Wedding Present
I got melamine plates and glasses and napkins and wine accessories from World Market along with the matching napkins. And found all other food stuff at Whole Foods and such.
Christa/Joel Wedding Present
I bought two extra napkins and made a roll up case for the silverware.

Fun.

Now only two more weddings/wedding presents/shower presents to go this summer! THIS is the problem with lots of cousins. They all inevitably decide to get married at once.

No Really, It Does! See!?

Um, okay, see!? It waited until I posted something snarky before it fixed it's own damn self after 30 minutes of trying just so I looked like an assclown. **Bitch!**

Well at least it's fixed so now I can go on talking about crafts and art and ideas that I never get around to which was it's original purpose. thankyouverymuch

Now if I can only figure out how to get the Moon Phase thingy to work correctly... Is there a blogspirit goddess I should be sacrificing one of my kitties to?

The Internet Hates Me

I'm not sure what I did. But before I even tried to mess around on the internet it decided it hated me. Anything I have ever been done that involved the www has kind of been a disaster. I have made two websites in my life. They were both hell on earth to make. Is this because I am stupid? I have no idea.

I taught myself what I know via books and crying and swearing and begging people on internet forums to help me. Even still it all illudes me. I just don't get it.

Which brings me to this little diary.

It hates me too.

Diaries are supposed to be the one thing in the world that you can go to and have it be completely unjudgmental. You can tell her your deepest fears and desires you would never tell anyone else and she would always be there for you. Well, somehow I've managed to get mine to hate me. It is spectacular it really is.

If you can't tell my diary is really *F*ed up. And changing the template has not done a damn thing (and I was really going to dig the purple).

Also the help e-mail function in blogspirit does not work, nor is there anything about this in the FAQ section. It makes me so. angry.

It Kills Brain Cells, People! Proof.

Okay forget Friday and Saturday. All the eating (lamb! roasted underground!), drinking (yes!), smoking (vanilla cloves! etc! *cough*), dancing (Opa!), and hottubbing (nekkid!) would make a good journal post but I want to write about Sunday.

I spent all of Sunday as an asshat.

Examples of sunday's boneheadedness:
A. Took the freeway in the WRONG DIRECTION on the way to friends house (note: I've driven here many times).
B. Missed my OWN FREEWAY EXIT on the way home from friends house.
C. Took the longassed way to drop my other friend off just because it's usually the way I go and apparently there was some auto-piloting going on.
D. Went to Trader Joes and tried to put some Tasty Bites in someone else's cart and of course laughed coyly "ha ha, silly me" which caused this person to flirt with me the entire rest of the grocery store visit, which considering the lines were stretched all the way down the isle was quite a while.
E. Came out of Trader Joe's and realized I had left my lights on.
F. Also, forgot most of what I went to the grocery store to get.

Then went to dinner at a friends house and could not concentrate on a single thing anyone said! Such an airhead!

I think I might actually be getting sick. Either that or my allergies are getting shitty again (I don't even know what I'm allergic to - I think dust).

But Friday and Saturday were so much fun. I was a little nervous dancing a Roma dance in front of a LOT of Roma people and after some really REALLY good Rom dancers. But we did great I think and I had a lot of fun.

I was so busy I didn't even have time to miss C too much. This week might be a different story, but since I'll be helping one of my dearest friends get ready for her wedding this weekend I think I'll be kept pretty busy. Plus, since I'm alone I took that trip to the grocery store with plans to eat REALLY healthy all week. And I have books from the library, art projects, bellydance, netflix...eh who needs a boyfriend?

It's Like Partying Like You Are Single But Not!

Woo-hoo! Man's out of the house doing manly things in mexico. So I'm off to do girly stuff in Sebastapol!

First off pre-party tonight for Herdeljezi Festival performers. Then I'm staying the night at a friend's friend's and in the morning I'll hit Tribal Fest 6 then over to the Herdeljezi Festival to perform. And probably stay there until the after party.

I'm pretty excited. It's an adventure all on my own (although I'll know plenty of people once I get there). I am obviously interested in the Roma Festival, but I'm also really looking forward to Tribal Fest, even though I don't do tribal dance. ATS that is. I'm actually not that into the dance form. To me, it is really repetitive and uncreative (now). And a lot of people do it to wear the costumes and look like Rachel Brice, but can't dance so are just up there bastardizing the whole thing. (harshshshsh) But I like the philosophy a lot, and of course the costume (tribal, not gothic or fusion) kicks ass. I'd take that over a turkish beaded monstrosity any day. And my theory is there has to be a middle ground. There has to be a fusion of dance that is interesting to watch, earthy and beautiful and a costume that is not such a direct copycat of EVERYONE ELSE yet not some horrendous color, covered with tacky stuff like a lot of Egyptian or Turkish costumes. There has to be, and so my search begins.

It will maybe suck to drive an hour each way by myself.. but maybe not, I've got my iPod and when you are rarely alone it can be surprising how pleasurable you find it. I don't know if I'll be able to stop feeling guilty about the gas guzzelage though. And it will be fun to hang with all the Lunatique girls, and I wont be sitting home feeling lonely without C. It's great.

However, packing for such events is not. Packing goes one way in my house:

1. Go to closet, extract bag or suitcase.
2. Set on bag on bed.
3. Turn for one MILLISECOND to get something to pack
4. Turn back and find this:
Just Try and Leave Without Me

It never fails. And if you can't tell by the E-VILLE look in her eyes, she is prepared to shred anything that comes within a paws reach of that bag. It's unnerving.

Just Try and Leave Without Me

I don't blame her for being pissed I will leave her for a night by herself. She would never do such an awful thing to me.

Anyway, I'm packed (with only a few scratches on my arm to prove it) and am leaving work at noon. Yay!!!

My Clean House, My Broken Car, And More!

Okay something is seriously wrong with my diary. Where did the white go? What happened? I, being absolutely baffled by the whole code/blog format don't even know where to begin looking for the problem. I deleted a few posts thinking that maybe when I was putting in a photo I fucked something up but that didn't work. So I guess now I'll just be in denial about it until I figure it out or give up and change to blogger or something. Ooops. Internets, you are one moody bitch.

In other news:
Spring Closet Cleaning
Evidence A. of Spring Cleaning Project 2006.

This is C cleaning out our closet and making us crave some camping. When I say spring cleaning I mean, following the Martha Stewart Checklist style, hands and knees scrubbing, mattress flipping SPRING CLEANING. And oh goddess, is it cathartic. Cat hair, cobwebs, rabid dust bunnies be gone...see you, uh probably next week. But for now it's great! And I can breath (with a little help from my trusty Hepa filter).

Just in time to say goodbye to C for a week in a half while he is dirt biking in Baja, and to say hello to a gaggle of girlyfriends coming over to watch bellydance videos, talk about our choreography and costume. SSSSoooo fun!

Not so fun: after spending $150 to get my wheels aligned to solve this GODFORSAKEN SHAKING in my car, and that not working and then taking it to my mechanic who replaced the bushings ($200) and my right door lock ($100) but couldn't figure out what was making it shake when I gave it gass, and then taking it back to the tire place to have it re-aligned.... nothing has *f*ing changed.. So here I am.

2 up, 2 down.

My computer: fixed (sans file recovery - BACK UP YOUR STUFF RIGHT NOW!)
My phone: fixed
My car: broken
My diary: broken
My cats: cute

TA DA!!
My sweet beautiful beloved iMac is fixed!

Letter:

Hi lisa,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this. Well, I did some more work on the iMac and got it working! :o) After replacing the hard drive originally, I needed to change some hardware settings on the drive to get it starting up correctly. I wanted to run it for a couple days to make sure everything is okay. I have OS 10.4 loaded onto it and can have it back to you tomorrow if that works for you. Just let me know what time works best.

Thanks,
Mr. Computer fixer

No getting my files off the trashed hard drive though. I'll say it again for good measure BACK THAT SHIT UP! I believe I've finally learned my lesson. (after oh, I don't know how many times..but this time it was my personal and freelance files not w.o.r.k files. So it means more, natch.)

AND I also finished a newlsetter project I was stressing about today and they loved it.

Oh My Gods. No more Fishers!

Holy formaldehyde. We watched the last episode of Six Feet Under last night (thank you Netflix). I'm still sniffling. Nothing like a cable television show to get you thinking about your own mortality right? Welcome to the 21st century. Actually more like the mortality of the people I love. Oh my Gods everyone is going to die! I just realized it! Kind of thing. Anyway, I love how Brenda was really pregnant. It was a little more beautifully believable than say, Rachel Green's stick skinny I've-got-a-vollyball-hidden-somewhere kind of TV pregnancy on Friends. Then again, what the hell am I doing comparing Friends to Six Feet Under?

We also finished the first season of 24 AND Lost. So just, oh GODDESS! When is the second season of Deadwood coming out? I have nothing to watch now. Can't they see we are dying over here? And Lost Season 2?? What am I supposed to do until then? As if anyone actually watches shows when they are on anymore.

Speaking of dying. I have to get the new Neko Case CD. I luuuuuuv et. I might be kinda getting a little girl crush on her. I SAID LITTLE!

Anyway, I forgot to post Cafe' Bellie pics. I only have this posed shot of us in our Turkish Rom costumes (bottom right! fake hair!). It was a really fun costume and the dance was awesome. We are actually going to perform this choreography at the Herdeljezi Festival in Sebastapol, a benefit for Kosavo Romani.

Mt. Shasta

Tarot Spread 4/23/06

I got my tarot read last week.
Coming up on Mt. Shasta
Alter at Shasta women's circle
I had an amazing weekend in Shasta with my girls. It was one of those awesome happy/sad, laughing/crying, really intense trips. We talked about everything in everyones lives and it was so freeing just to be with people that I trusted and could be myself with. I realize how I've been lacking that over the years with other so called friends. Plus the weather was incredible, Shasta was beautiful as ever and the drive was traffic free and full of good tunes on the ipod. Couln't be better. I feel very refreshed.

I have a lot of stuff going on at work. My computer is still in the repair shop of sorts. But i've gotten a new phone.
New Phone!
